End of Summer – Year 2

So the end of summer is near – time to evaluate how much of a difference there has been since we became involved with this wonderful neighborhood. It has been 2 years this month.  We added twins to the neighborhood making my family even more passionate about making our neighborhood stronger and  our community better.  East Durham has seen a lot of plans and there has been a few projects that have come to life in the past 2 years that we have been tracking. Most recently Holton Career & Resource Center with Health Clinic will be opening their doors,  Golden Belt’s ongoing Art Walk  & PAC 1 finally has a viewable website resource. (Thank you) Cleveland Holloway’s & East Durham’s  Open House Tour has shown us what a lil elbow grease and ingenuity  can produce – more home owners invested in the community. Golden Belt Arts Campus has brought us such Culture through Art. We have some awesome ‘artist’ hard at work in our community. Even the ‘tot’ can join in with LabourLove Gallery- art classes for tots 18 months- 8 years old. All in all we have seen what a join effort for progress can do neighbors, representatives, business owners, just all the people in our community coming together to make our community better.

It seems great to live there. I’m thinking about buying a house there do you really like the neighborhood?

  2. Golden Belt Says:

It’s increasingly becoming a Downtown Durham hotspot. I enjoy being able to check out new artist work right across the street. Also all my neighbors are really great and helpful. But it does come with it’s quirks, the street walkers of the night have to be reported regularly.

Hi, I spent hours reading about the Golden Belt business and residential neighborhood. It sounds like a growing REAL people to people neighborhood. I would be interested in meeting some of the neighbors to get a true sense of the area. Currenlty live in Asheville, not sure if downtown Durham could support another art gallery.
some feed back would be appreciated.
    Thanks Brenda

My apologies in the delayed response, but I am glad to hear about your interest. Of course Downtown Durham can support another gallery. Downtown Durham is fast becoming an artist hot-spot where designers throughout the state are noting as all inclusive for classics, modern and progressive art work. We actually had a Art Market similar to the farmers market for artist that brought artist far and wide. With all the artist uanable to showcase their work on-going especially in this type of slow moving economy Galleries are a nessecessary partnership and being in the area they are moving too would be beneifical. I know of one artist from the Wilmington area trying to relocate because her sponsorships and commissioned work have been coming from the Triangle area, especially Durham. You may want to come out and see the area and meet some neighbors and artist @ The Art Walk which runs every 3rd Friday and showcases artist work and brings out the art lovers. If you have any questions feel free to drop a line goldenbelt.historicdistrict@gmail.com

      – We look forward to seeing you soon.
