Celebrate Obama’s Inauguration by helping to feed neighbors in need. He
is encouraging us to make an ongoing commitment to our communities: “While government has an important role to play in helping rekindle our economy and addressing the problems of a distressed nation, President-elect Obama believes each of us, as Americans, have a responsibility to do what we can for our communities and fellow citizens.” Durham For Obama members, along with volunteer groups in Orange, Wake, and Person Counties, are responding to this challenge by organizing “Yes We Cans,” a food drive for the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC, during Inauguration week, along with a workday at the Food Bank on January 19, a National Day of Service in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luthor King Jr.’s birthday. Check at for information on how you can participate; information about drop sites will be posted soon (we’re still working out the details). A list of the items most needed by the Food Bank is at We made a difference in November; let’s show that we will continue to make a
difference through community service.
